June 1st: held the final of Shanghai Children's Procession Singing
Competition which lasted half a year with up to 90% of the children in Shanghai
took part in it. It was one of the largest and most instructive activities for
the children in Shanghai.

May: organized "the First Shanghai Culture &Art Festival Award",which was
the first and the most authoritative, of its kind in Shanghai and later became
biannual; jointly organized the 14th "Shanghai Spring ".

largest festival for Asian vocal circle at that time; co-organized "Treasure in

2003
On January 20th, the website of the SHCDF launched officially with both
Chinese and English versions.
From March 7th to 9th, Han Luyi, vice Secretary-General of Beijing Cultural
Development Foundation with his delegation paid a visit to the SHCDF.
From Match 16th to 17th, director of Hawaii WO International Communication
Center and guests from Education Advancement Fund International paid a visit to
the SHCDF.
On August 2nd, 2003 Shanghai Animation Exposition grandly opened in the
Oriental Pearl International Media Center, which became another cultural hot
spot in Shanghai following World Carnival. SHCDF was one of the sponsors.
In the middle of August, the SHCDF received two volunteers from UK, who gave
an oral English class to the SHCDF staff.
On August 29th, Mr. Samuel Kohler, chairman of Basel Art Fair, and Mr.
Jonathan Napack , manager of its Asian Department, paid a visit to the SHCDF and
investigated the work of the Organizing Committee Office of Shanghai Art Fair.
On the eve of September 8th, the Gallery Invitational Exposition, which was
the preview of the 7th Shanghai Art Fair, was inaugurated at Shanghai Art
Museum.
On September 9th, The Symposium entitled“The trend of Chinese Gallery Trade”,
which was sponsored by Department for Cultural Market, Ministry of Culture and
undertook by the SHCDF, was held in Shanghai Art Museum. The theme of the
seminar was the prospects for Chinese gallery trade and how to standardize the
development of the trade.
From October 14th to 19th, candidates selected by preliminary competition or
recommended by 11 domestic television stations were competing for China New
Singers Competition, which was sponsored by the SHCDF.
From October 28th to November 2nd, 2003 Shanghai Art Fair was held by the
SHCDF successfully.
On November 2nd, the America Emmanuel Javogue Fine Arts LLC signed an
agreement with the SHCDF to donate the famous work of French realism sculptor
August Rodin-The Large Thinker.
On November 5th, Bai Xi, Special Consultant of U.S. John F. Kennedy Center,
and other two guests paid a visit to the SHCDF.
From November 7th to 14th, the organizing committees of Shanghai Asia Music
Festival and In the City Music Festival, Japan jointly sponsored Sino-Japanese
music festival at ARK in Xintiandi. On November 8th, Music Wave Band gave a
performance at the Century Square in Shanghai.
From November 12th to 14th, the Sixth Asia New Singers Competition was held
in the OTV studio by the SHCDF. Candidates from 12 countries including China
(Hong Kong and Macao included), Japan, Korea, Mongolia and Malaysia participated
the event.
On November 15th, 2003 Anti-Piracy Concert was held in Shanghai Stadium
sponsored by the SHCDF.
In the middle of November, Zhang Yu, the famous artist, donated RMB1,000,000
yuan to the SHCDF to set up Zhang Yu Culture Talents Fund.
On November 28th, the 14th Shanghai Magnolia Stage Performance Awarding
Ceremony, co-sponsored by the SHCDF and Shanghai Federation of Art and Literary
Circles, was held at Shanghai Oriental TV Studio.
On the afternoon of December 10th, Yao Dixiong, famous Chinese artist
sojourning in Australia donated a Chinese painting to SHCDF to express his
support to Shanghai Culture Undertakings.
On December 10th, Professor Liukang from Duke University in U.S. paid a visit
to SHCDF.
On December 22nd, delegation consisted of on-the-job EMBA students from
Institution of Communication, Tai Wan Ming Chuan University, visited the SHCDF.
During the end of December, the SHCDF delegation paid a visit to
American-Japanese Foundation, the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts in
Hawaii, Honolulu Museum, etc.. Both partiess had deep discussions on the
operation mechanism of non-profit organizations and cooperation in cultural
projects.
2004 Main Events
In January, Liao Changyong, the famous baritone, donated to the SHCDF to
found Liao Changyong Vocal Music Art Fund.
From Jan.15th to Feb.4th, "Liu Linghua Oil Painting Show"----one of the
communicating items in China-France Culture Year, was held at China Culture
Center in Paris. It was co-sponsored by Culture Ministry and SHCDF, and as a
granting item of "Liu Linghua Art Special Fund" of SHCDF.
On the evening of Feb.29th, The Fourth China Dancing“Lotus Award”(Pantomime
and Dancing Poem), under the co-sponsorship of China Federation of Literary and
Art Circles, Chinese Dancers Association, Shanghai Federation of Literary and
Art Circles and Shanghai Cultural Development Foundation, made the finals.
On May 17th, Mr. Henry Matthews, director of Galley and Collections of Grand
Valley State University, U.S.A visited SHCDF.
On June 5th, a six-person Hawaii Delegation visited SHCDF. The two parties
had a discussion about the cultural talents cultivation, the cultural program
exchange and the volunteer dispatch in the future and reached a fundamental
agreement.
On June 15th, 2003 Shanghai Municipal Mass Culture Award Program, which was
granted by the SHCDF, held its award meeting in Broadcast and TV Tower.
From July 2nd to 11th, 2004 Shanghai Comic & Animation Exposition, which
was co-sponsored by the SHCDF, was held at the Oriental Pearl Tower.
From June 25th to July 2nd, 2004 Shanghai International Ballet Competition,
which was co-sponsored by the SHCDF, was held in Shanghai.
On the eve of August 17th,“Hello, Hong Kong—Dances of The Dynasties”by
Shanghai Song & Dance Ensemble was premiered at the theater of Hong Kong
Academy for Performing Arts. The performance was co-sponsored by SHCDF and Hong
Kong Cultural Development Foundation.
On August 18th, the premiere of DengXiaoPing·1928, which was hosted by
Shanghai Film Corporation and SHCDF, was ceremoniously held in Shanghai Film Art
Center.
On August 25th, the donation inauguration for The Large Thinker by August
Rodin was grandly held in front of the Shanghai Library.
On the night of August 26th, the first "International Culture Salon" of the
SHCDF was held on the scenery boat. Those who were present at the party
consisted of the general consuls and officers of consulates general from 24
countries in Shanghai and their wives, the representatives from the media both
at home and abroad, delegates from special funds, from the fields of justice,
the arts, hotels and real estate and so on.
On August 27th, Christopher Butler, chairman of Asia 2000 Foundation, New
Zealand, visited the SHCDF. The two parties had a discussion about the cultural
program cooperation, the new cultural form exchange and the artist dispatch in
the future and reached a fundamental agreement.
from September 1st, the SHCDF began to receive applications for Cultural
Project Grant from the whole society.
On September 3rd, Debbie Allen, the famous American dancer, held a Jazz dance
class to young students at the Shanghai Arts Hotel. The event was conducted
jointly by U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai, SHCDF, and Shanghai City Dance
Company and
On October 9th, Ms. Paula Valier, the Managing Director of Biennale of Sydney
in Australia visited SHCDF. The two parties exchange ideas of project management
and channels for raising fund.
On October 26th, Lou Xiaoqi, Secretary-General of Beijing Cultural
Development Foundation, paid a visit to the SHCDF.
From November 1st to 4th, 7th Asia New Singers Competition, sponsored by the
SHCDF and SMG, was held in Shanghai. Candidates from 15 countries including
Japan, Korea and Malaysia took part in the competition.
On November 6th, 2004 Anti-piracy Concert was grandly held. Stars from China
mainland, Hong Kong and Tai Wan were attracted to give performances.
From November 5th to 9th, the 5th China Art Industry Forum & the First
Salon of Art in Autumn, Beijing, China, jointly organized by Center for Cultural
Market Development Ministry of Culture, China as well as SHCDF, was held in
China National Museum,Beijing.
From November 17th to 21st, 2004 Shanghai Art Fair, which was sponsored by
the SHCDF, was held at Shanghai Mart. It became not only the broadest in scale
in Asia again, but also the most internationalized art fair around Asia.
On the morning of 25th November, Ms. Sophie McIntyre, Director of Adam Art
Gallery in Victoria University of Wellington, visited the SHCDF.
On December 3rd, delegation of Hawaii State Government visited the SHCDF. The
two parties had a deep discussion about the cooperation mode of 2007 Hawaii
painting exhibition in Shanghai, the music group dispatch and how to set up
oversea branch of the SHCDF in the future.
By the end of 2004, another 2 special funds of the SHCDF were
established-----Shanghai Biennale Special Fund and Shanghai Oriental Art Centre
Special Fund.
2005
On January 26th, the 1st Annual Exhibition of Shanghai Xiangshan Painting
Institute (SXPI) & the Ceremony of donating artworks to the SHCDF was held
in the Exhibition hall of Shanghai Library. Aiming at supporting the commonweal
and redounding upon the society, the SXPI donated 24 artworks including
paintings, calligraphy and seal carvings to the SHCDF.
On February 3rd, after examination and approve, 69 projects acquired grants
from SHCDF in 2004 with total amount of 39.667 million RMB, including culture
& arts creation, cultural research, culture & arts activity, culture
&arts talent training, culture & art exchange and mass cultural
activity.
On March 23rd, Mr. Zhou Fulong, Deputy Director of CPC Nanjing Publicity
Department, visited SHCDF with a delegation of 10 people for the way of
establishment, system, frame, operation mechanism and other related studies
of“cultural development foundation”.
On March 25th, the academic lecture entitled“Chinese Art Collection and
Investment " was held by Shanghai Art Fair Organizing Committee Office and
Shanghai Chamber of Commerce (SCC). Being a senior expert of Chinese gallery
circle, Mr. Guo Haoman, director of Yunfeng Gallery, was invited to give the
first lecture.
On April 11th, Consulate General of Greece in Shanghai and representatives
from Greece-China Association (GCA) visited SHCDF. During the meeting, both
sides expressed will to establish long-term close friendship and discussed and
explored the future cultural exchange and cooperation between Shanghai and
Greece.
On May 12th,“My Favorite Sport”Art Painting Competition starts signing up.
The theme of the competition is art and sport, aiming to promote mutual respect
and understanding among children. The global organizer of the competition is
International Child Art Foundation (ICAF) and SHCDF is the host of the
competition in China.
On May 13th, the 2nd International Culture Salon (ICS) was held by SHCDF in
Hainabaichuan Club. The 2nd ICS adopted the form of bilingual forum with the
theme of“How to Integrate Social Resources to Develop Cultural Commonweal
Undertakings”.
On June 10th, Hawaiian Delegation paid a visit to SHCDF, which comprised
representatives from Hawaiian Government, Hawaii Ballet, Hawaii Opera House, and
Pacific Culture & Education Foundation.
On June 18th, the Opening Ceremony of“Seven Plus One”Oil Painting And
Sculpture Group Exhibition of Shanghai Youth and Midlife Artists & the
Ceremony of Artworks Donation to SHCDF was held in Liu Haisu Art Museum. Eight
artists donated artworks to SHCDF.
On June 18th, concert presented by Zhou Xiaoyan's Splendid Students was held
at Shanghai Grand Theater, which was hosted jointly by SHCDF, Shanghai
Conservatory of Music, Shanghai Grand Threat and Art Channel of Oriental TV
Station and was funded by SHCDF Zhou Xiaoyan Vocal Art Special Fund.
On June 30th, the press conference of“Shanghai Youth and Midlife Artists
Commending Exhibition 2005”was held by SHCDF. The exhibition would be held
attached to Shanghai Art Fair during November 16th to 20th,with the aim of
discovering and commending a series of youth and midlife promising artists in
Shanghai, so as to enrich and prosper contemporary Shanghai artistic creation.
On July 15th, Shanghai Commonweal Publicity on Broadcast And TV Special Fund,
which is subjected to SHCDF, awarded“Commonweal Publicity Image Ambassador”to
Wang Jie, the famous Hong Kong pop singer.
On August 3rd, professor Tom Klobe from University of Hawaii Art Gallery and
representatives from Taiwan Evergrand Art Museum paid a visit to SHCDF. The two
parties discussed future collaboration on co-organizing exhibitions.
On August 27th, the final selective trial (mainland, China) of the 8th Asia
New Singer Competition ended successfully. It was a great honor to have Xu
Peidong, the well-known composer as well as the chairman of the Chinese
Musicians Association, to be the jury director. There were more than 170
competitors from 15 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, while over
one third of the singers chose original works as their competition songs.
From September 30th to October 2nd, SHCDF delegation paid a visit to
Euro-Asia Promotion and Cultural Foundation in Romania. The two sides reached
agreement on cultural exchange during 2006 and 2007, and signed the Memorandum
of Cooperation.
From September 30th to October 6th, with the support of the Embassy of The
People's Republic of China In Romania, the“Exhibition of Chinese
Photographs--Cultural Treasures”was held at Art Center in Brasov, Romania, which
was co-organized by SHCDF and Euro-Asia Promotion and Cultural Foundation
(EAPCF). This exhibition introduced the Chinese historic relics and cultural
attractions with pictures dedicated to the 56th Anniversary of the Establishment
of The People's Republic of China.
On October 5th, co-organized by SHCDF and East Shanghai International
Cultural Media Co. Ltd, the grand Ethical Song & Dance Evening“Creating
Harmony”was held at Shanghai Grand Stage.The event showed the brilliant harvest
achieved by the Central Ensemble of National Minorities Songs and Dances since
the past 50 years.
From October 6th to 9th, on the invitation of Greece-China Association (GCA),
SHCDF delegation paid a four-day visit to Athens and signed a memorandum of
cooperation with GCA.
On October 9th, SHCDF delegation paid a visit to International Child Art
Foundation eV. in Munich,as ICAF’s National partner of its prestigious
program—Arts Olympiad.
On October 18th, Mr. Rui Manuel de Sousa Rocha, Co-ordinator of Macau-China
Delegation of Oriental Foundation (Portuguese) paid a visit to SHCDF.The two
parties discussed future collaboration on co-organizing exhibitions and cultural
research.
From October 26th to November 12th, the 8th Shanghai Asia Music Festival
(2005) was held in Shanghai with three main events: the 8th Asia New Singer
Competition 2005, Chinese Original Pop Music Competition 2005 and Anti-Piracy
Concert 2005.
On November 8th, through the examination and discussion of 5 judges, 108
painting works were selected from multitudinous participating works for the
shoot-off. The awards will be revealed at the Exhibition of Excellent Paintings
& Awarding Ceremony of“My Favorite Sport”on January 2nd, 2006.
On November 12th, the Exhibition of European Classical Oil Paintings during
16th to 18th century opened at Shanghai Art Museum held jointly by SHCDFand
Maison d’Art, Monaco. The 29 masterpieces displayed were selected from its
multi-million dollar collection by the sponsor.
On November 19th, the grand Opening Ceremony of Shanghai International
Biennial Urban Sculpture Exhibition (SIBUSE) 2005 was held in Shanghai Xujiahui
Green Park by SHCDF. The SIBUSE 2005, with the theme of“Art, perfecting life”and
duration of 4 months, boasted nearly 70 artists from 15 countries with 35 huge
outdoor scenery sculptures and almost 260 small indoor decorative sculptures..
On November 20th, the 9th Shanghai Art Fair (2005) closed successfully after
a five-day exhibition. According to incomplete statistic, the total amount of
the visitor of this year’s Shanghai Art Fair exceeded 55,000 and the sales
volume reached 52 million RMB, both were the most in its history.
On November 22nd, the 8th Asian Cartoon Exhibition, hosted by SHCDF, The
Japan Foundation Asian Center and The Consulate of Japan in Shanghai, was
launched at Liu Haisu Art Museum. The exhibition, with the theme“The Meaning of
Life”, will proudly present 84 works freshly with wit and originality by 13
leading cartoonists from 11countries around Asia.
On December 16th, the 3rd International Culture Salon & Christmas Party
was held in Ming Yuan Art Center. On the occasion of the ongoing“Shanghai
International Biennial Urban Sculpture Exhibition (SIBUSE) 2005”, the Salon
aimed to further promote the influence and reputation of SHCDF and SIBUSE, as
well as to strengthen communication with Salon members from consulates, cultural
circles and business community.
